It was time for the long, hard hug and goodbye. Son had visited from Montreal for a three day family event and reunion.
Dad hugged and said, “Have a good life. OK.”
What’s up Dad, are you feeling well. Is everything alright?”
Seventy one years old. Newly retired and many changes. Previously a bout with prostate cancer and radical surgery in Hamilton. Now all clear.
“No Son, just have a good life.” By that he had meant good, productive, enjoyable, loyal and righteous. He took little thought for the morrow. It would be filled with unanticipated providences. (Read James epistle chapter 4 verses 13 to 15.)
What could have been a better send-off than that?
Soon Son would again enjoy his wife and darling little girl. He swooped down into the rental car. Waved. Slowly backed away and directed himself toward Pearson International. No big affair in that. He was a pilot going world wide for Air Canada. Learning in every trip.
