He was tired. Not discouraged, but physically drained. The Tour this time took its toll. The Boys in the Band worked hard at lifting him up. Stomping Tom.
Vancouver, Red Deer, Portage la Prairie. Sudbury the beloved, Belleville, Moncton, Truro, Summerside.
Few planes. Mostly Bus.
He had a couple of new songs that were getting applause and gentle laughter. Margo’s Got the Cargo. TTC Skeedaddler. He knew that there was another one brewing.
Outside the motel, Tom opted to stay in the bus a while after the Boys went to their rooms. Subdued lighting. Mesmeric sound of highway traffic in the distance. A young couple laughing as they lugged their bags up to the front desk.
Suddenly the image came of Toronto hockey fans. How they loved the boot stomping on the plywood and the strumming that accompanied The Good Old Hockey Game. Particularly good supporters and friends, trip after trip. Love. YEAH THAT WAS THE TARGET. Kept all of them going. Would do so again. This was a Canadian Master. Loved by many, and loving.
Now where was that 24/7 Buffet in Town mentioned by the Boys?
